WELCOME TO MRS. MARTIN'S WEBPAGE
WHAT TIME IS IT?
Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894 following the deaths of workers during the Pullman strike. President Cleveland signed it into law to exhibit the strength of the trade and labor organizations to be followed by a festival for workers and families. The Sunday preceding Labor Day was adopted as Labor Sunday and dedicated to the spiritual and education aspects of the labor movement. I hope you were all able to use this time off to get with your family and share some precious time together. You know, our time is limited. We must use this precious time that God has given to us wisely. My students know that there is a time to study, a time to work, and a time to socialize. I am very strict about making sure these times are honored. I can tell that many of them have no scheduled time at home in which to get their studying and homework completed. Perhaps there are just too many other "important" things to do.
We are just like the kids. We run here and there. Of course we put off until the last minute the things we don't really want to do. Sometimes it goes deeper than that. Maybe we have decisions to make concerning our relationship with the Lord or with a friend or family member. Perhaps some don't have a church home, perhaps some aren't tithing or giving as they should, perhaps some are so bogged down in sin that they are not living their lives in the path God would have them to go, perhaps they are weighted down with cares and concerns of this world, and just perhaps there are some who have never invited Christ into their lives to prepare a place in Heaven for their souls. The book of Ecclesiastes 3:1 - 8 says: "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance, a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace." What time is it in your life?
