We have made it through our first full week of 3rd grade!
Here is what we have planned for this week...
Math: Finish Chapter 1 on place value. Test will be Thursday, September 9th. We will start Chapter 2-Compare, Order and Round Whole Numbers on Friday and continue with Chapter 2 next week. Please continue to practice math facts at home-addition, subtraction and multiplication!
Phonics/Spelling: We have begun the Phonics Dance for 3rd grade. This is a great way to reinforce common hunks and chunks they see when reading and writing words. This week we will focus on the -all chunk. Spelling words this week will focus on the plural forms of words using -s, -es, -ies. We will take a pre-test on Tuesday, work with the words all week and have a test on Friday. The spelling words this week are...

Bible: Judges: Sowing and Reaping-As the children trace the cycle of judges, they will examine the consequences of disobedience as evidenced in the lives of the Israelites, as well as in their own. Memory Verse-Galatians 6:7 "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." BIBLE TEST IS FRIDAY.
Social Studies: We will continue Unit 5 Making Economic Choices. In Chapter 9-Economics Everday, we will discuss income, budget, opportunit cost and competition. On Friday we will have a quiz over chapter 9. Next week, we will continue Unit 5 and begin Chapter 10-Communities and Trade.
Writing Conventions/Workshop: The class will learn about subjects and predicates. We will continue to work on and finish our Summer Break stories. Students will learn editing symbols and practice editing sample writings and peer work.
Guided Reading: Groups will focus on setting, characters, summarizing and retelling. We will also work on reading fluently and decoding unknown words by looking for hunk and chunk patterns.
